Hosted by Brad Hauck, the show takes lessons from more than 20 years as a volunteer firefighter and applies them to business, teams, community leadership and everyday life.
This is not leadership theory from a textbook. It is leadership shaped by smoke, heat, radio calls, tired crews, changing wind, hard decisions and the need to stay calm when things do not go to plan.

The Challenge
Leadership is harder when conditions keep changing.
Most leaders are not struggling because they are lazy, weak or careless. They are struggling because the ground keeps shifting beneath them.
Staff leave. Technology changes. Customers expect more. Volunteers are harder to keep. Teams are tired. Conflict builds. AI changes the way people work. What worked last year may not work today.
That is what makes leadership difficult.
On the fireground, you never assume the first plan will survive the whole job. Wind changes. Fire behaviour changes. Visibility drops. Crews get tired. Communications fail. Good leaders do not panic when that happens. They stop, assess, plan, act and debrief.
Business and life are different from firefighting, but the leadership pressure often feels familiar. You still need to read the conditions, make decisions with incomplete information, communicate clearly and keep people moving in the right direction.
That is what Leadership in the Line of Fire is about.
About Brad Hauck
Firefighter. Business owner. Teacher. Leadership storyteller.
Brad Hauck is a volunteer firefighter, digital marketer, author, speaker and business owner from Australia.
For more than 20 years, Brad has served as a volunteer firefighter, responding to bushfires and emergency situations where teamwork, trust, communication and calm decision making matter. His experience includes working with crews, leading teams, supporting incident operations and learning from leaders across many backgrounds.
Brad has also worked in business and digital marketing since 1996. In that world, change is constant. Search engines change. Technology changes. AI changes. Customer behaviour changes. Business owners often have to adapt fast or get left behind.
That mix of firefighting and business is what shaped this podcast.
Brad does not claim to be the perfect leader. In fact, a key part of his message is that leaders keep learning. They make mistakes, debrief, adjust and move forward.
The lessons shared here come from experience, not theory alone.
Why Firefighter Leadership?
Because pressure reveals leadership.
Firefighting strips leadership back to what matters.
You need clear communication. You need trust. You need people to know their role. You need someone watching the bigger picture. You need a safe way out. You need the courage to act and the discipline to pull back when conditions turn against you.
On a fireground, leadership is not about looking important. It is about helping people do difficult work safely and effectively.
The same lesson applies outside emergency services.
In business, leadership is not about the title on your email signature. It is about how people experience you when things get difficult. Do they trust your judgement? Do they know what matters? Do they feel safe enough to tell you the truth? Do they understand the mission? Do they know when to act and when to wait?
